James Hannington was the first Bishop of Equatorial Africa. In October of 1885, he was attacked and imprisoned. This horrible experience was recorded in his journal. Hannington wrote, “Consumed with fever, and at times delirious with pain, devoured by vermin, menaced every moment by the prospect of death.” On October 29th, he became a martyr for his faith. The day before his death, Hannington made this entry in his journal: “I am quite broken down and brought low. Comforted by Psalm 27.” Regardless of our circumstances, God’s Word can bring comfort to our heart.
