Introduction to 1st Corinthians

Introduction to 1st Corinthians

Free Bible Study: 1st  Corinthians
Paul, known as the apostle to the Gentiles was successful in converting many Gentiles at Corinth ([2]1Co 12:2), and even some Jews ([3]Ac 18:8). He had been the instrument of God for converting many Gentiles and some Jews in spite of the passionate opposition of the Jewish leaders ([4]Ac 18:5), during the year and a half in which he ministered there.

Mickey Mantle was a hero even if he never pictured himself as a role model. His death on August 13, 1995, was a sorrowful experience for the world of sports. When Mickey Mantle gave a press conference following his liver transplant just two months before his death, he said, “You talk about a role model, this is a role model: Don’t be like me.” Mantle was obviously reflecting on his abuse of alcohol and the way he neglected his family. Given the chance to do it over again Mantle seemed to truly believe he would live much differently. In the closing days of the Hall of Famer’s life, former Yankee teammate Bobby Richardson said Mantle had a deathbed conversion to Christ. Richardson, who officiated the funeral, noted that the slugger had resisted Christ all of his life but finally came to embrace the Savior as his Lord. Mantle’s words about not following his example have a twofold meaning. First, as he said in July, don’t abuse alcohol or neglect your family. Second, don’t wait until you’re dying to receive Christ. His greatest hit came long after the cheers had died at Yankee Stadium.
