There are few characters that can be found within the Holy Scriptures, about who it might be said are finer or nobler than Jephthah, or rather Jiphthach ("the breaker through"). He is introduced to us as "a mighty man of valor"—the same terms by which the angel had first addressed Gideon: “And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!" (Judges 6:12; NKJV).
