Israel was zealous in their efforts to obtain righteousness, but they went about it in the wrong way. They thought they were righteous because they kept the Law. But the truth is, they never kept it, they did not obey God, and they rejected Christ. They were self-righteous, but they were not righteous in God’s eyes.
